AUTO INSTALLATION

Install playonlinux from initial setup

 

Download playonlinux install scripts for Borderlands 3 HERE

 

Extract the files and place the Borderlands3Fix.bash in your HOME folder

 

Run playonlinux and go to tools and run a local script and run install Borderlands 3.pol

 

Once done with the playonlinux script, right click Borderlands3Fix.bash (which should be in your home directory) and run as a program

 

If you need to install / run an extractor, do that now from this playonlinux virtual drive. You can now create a shortcut in playonlinux to your borderlands3.exe and run!

MANUAL INSTALLATION

Follow initial setup page located on this site if you have not already

Create a new 64bit virtual drive for Borderlands 3

Configure the drive and install the latest components of:
dotnet480
DXVK (192 at time of writing)
vcrun2019
dinput8
physx

Download, extract and cd into the folder mf-install which can be found HERE.  Backup Link

Replace the bold words with your info

Then run WINEPREFIX="/home/YOUR USERNAME HERE/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/THE NAME OF YOUR BORDERLANDS PREFIX" ./mf-install.sh

Do the same steps for mf-installcab which can be found HERE. Backup Link

Then run WINEPREFIX="/home/YOUR USERNAME HERE/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/THE NAME OF YOUR BORDERLANDS PREFIX" ./install-mf-64.sh

Now copy the mfplat.dll from the folder you got from extracting mf-installcab-master and place it into the folder with the borderlands3.exe:

"/Borderlands 3/OakGame/Binaries/Win64" was the location on my system/install

When configuring the playonlinux drive, in the general tab, click make a new shortcut for this virtual drive and locate the borderlands3.exe

Play borderlands 3 on ubuntu linux!

BUGS: I have encountered an unfortunate glitch on my system. If Borderlands does not startup once closed, you will need to edit GameUserSettings.ini which may be found in "/home/YOUR USERNAME HERE/Documents/My Games/Borderlands 3/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor"

Locate the "PreferredMonitor=" line and delete anything after the "=" sign.
Locate the "PreferredMonitorDeviceName=" line and delete anything after the "=" sign.
You will have to do this every time you want to play.

PERFORMANCE TIP: If you have a high end powerful CPU in a LAPTOP that struggles with keeping cool, disable turbo boost while playing. Run in the terminal:

echo "1" | sudo tee /sys/devices/system/cpu/intel_pstate/no_turbo

and then to turn back on
